8 Reasons Gambling is wrong

  1. To Gamble is to deny God’s sovereignty (by trusting and affirming instead, the existence of chance/luck.  It is to trust money instead of God)   Proverbs 30:8-9  Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food sufficient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
  2. Gambling is built on irresponsible stewardship (tempting people to throw away their money - the odds are stacked against the gambler)
  3. Gambling erodes a work ethic (by demeaning and displacing hard work as the proper means to earn a living)  Even believers are admonished:  if any would not work, neither should he eat.  2 Thess. 3:10   See also Ephesians 4:28 that illustrates the principle of hard work and its joyful fruit: giving to others, what I have earned:   Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
  4. Gambling is the epitome of the sin of covetousness (tempts people to give in to greed)  thou shalt not covet
  5. Gambling exploits the poor who think they can get rich quickly.  Proverbs 22:22  do not exploit the poor.
  6. Gambling is addictive and takes food and material goods from a family, leading to poverty and suffering for children & marriages. It can also lead to crime, as one seeks to support the habit by stealing from others.
  7. Gambling is seductive and teaches a life principle of giving into to seductions rather than living with a sound mind and discipline.
  8. Gambling is a time waster.  Ephesians 5:15-16  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,  redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
